AFAA recognizes that Fulbrighters are leaders in their fields and that these skills can be further supported and developed after the initial scholarship year has ended. Thus, AFAA has been exploring and developing a suite of leadership development activities since 2019. This included a scoping survey to membership to better understand membership needs and interests in this space. This survey revealed broad support for two complementary programmes: a mentorship scheme for AFAA members to act as mentors or mentees and a leadership programme including workshops and seminars to further develop leadership skills.
Leadership Development Program Held in collaboration with Fulbright Australia and the University of Technology Sydney, Sydney The Leadership Development Program provides a facilitated adult learning experience that enables alumni “... to make sense of and act upon the personal, social, occupational and political environment in which they live”. The program further enriches the Fulbright experience by providing an opportunity for alumni to reflect collectively on their implementation experiences and support each other to develop renewed strategies for creating positive social change. |
The Program will support a cohort of alumni to generate projects that further the Fulbright mission of international understanding, while supporting graduates to accelerate the growth and success of their social entrepreneurship efforts and aspects of their leadership development and skills. The Program will adopt a broad multifaceted approach to leadership encompassing a mixture of leadership skills, thinking and best practice in a number of important contexts including (but not limited to): the post-pandemic age; the encouragement of individual and collective resilience; identifying and addressing technological challenges and opportunities; the interpersonal; and diversity and inclusivity.
